The Nevis
The Nevis is described in the guidebook as one of the steepest and hardest rivers in New Zealand, so you can understand we were a little scared sleeping in the shearers quarters at the farm at the top of the Nevis gorge.
The morning came too quickly and before we knew it we were roping the boats up the gorge walls above a nasty looking drop. Tired and cold we hoped the river would not be this much of a mission all the way down. Luckily from this point on the river was amazing, tight technical drops in and around boulders with the sun driving down onto us.
